Petito was murdered by Laundrie, and her heartbreaking story has resurfaced recently following the release of a new Netflix documentary.
The three-part docu-series, American Murder: Gabby Petito, delves into the weeks leading up to her death, exploring the events that ultimately unfolded and shedding light on the circumstances surrounding her untimely passing.
The series includes bodycam footage from a police encounter in Utah, where officers approached Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie after a bystander reported seeing Laundrie slap Petito.
Before the documentary aired, the FBI released a devastating letter written by Petito to Laundrie in the days leading up to her death. In the letter, she pleaded with him to stop calling her names, writing, “Just please stop crying and stop calling me names because we’re a team and I’m here with you.” This emotional plea offers a glimpse into the troubled relationship before the tragedy.
“I know I can act like a child sometimes, but it’s because you give me this energy, and I love you so much, it hurts.
” She continued, “Seeing you in pain is destroying me. I’m not trying to be negative, but I’m frustrated because there’s nothing more I can do.”

American Murder: Gabby Petito has stirred controversy since its release, particularly due to the use of AI-generated voices reading Petito’s journals. Many viewers of the Netflix series found the feature to be “creepy” and “uncomfortable.” One Reddit user shared, “I personally hated it.
I’m sure her family approved, and it may have been meaningful to them, but it didn’t sit well with me.”
“But if I die tragically please no one recreate my voice to make a better documentary. Creepy.”

Similarly, another viewer shared, “Yeah, it made me uncomfortable. As soon as I heard it, I checked Reddit to see if anyone else felt the same way.
” They continued, “Netflix has been caught using AI in their true crime series before, so I’m not really surprised. It’s just disgusting that they have no shame in doing this kind of thing.”
American Murder: Gabby Petito is now available to stream on Netflix.
