‘It was great seducing someone with your mind’

Angelina Jolie has shared that the most incredible sex she’s had was with her co-star, Denzel Washington.
Angelina Jolie starred alongside Denzel Washington in the 1999 thriller The Bone Collector, where she portrayed Amelia Donaghy, a police officer who forms a romantic bond with Lincoln Rhyme, a quadriplegic forensics expert played by Washington.
The two work together to catch a serial killer who abducts and violently murders victims. What made the film unique was Lincoln’s paralysis, which confined him to a bed while Amelia conducted investigations on his behalf. This forced the characters to build their romance in unconventional ways, relying on emotional intimacy rather than physical closeness.
Their on-screen chemistry was shaped by the challenge of conveying deep connection despite Lincoln’s limited physical presence. Their relationship evolved through dialogue and trust, creating a poignant and compelling dynamic in the thriller.

In an interview with Dark Horizons shortly after the film’s release, Jolie shared that “seducing someone with your mind” was a major turn-on for her. She found the characters’ journeys and the deep connection that developed between them fascinating.
Reflecting on a particular scene where she uses scent and intellect to seduce Lincoln, Jolie described it as “the best sex I ever had.” She emphasized that the experience of seduction through mental connection was incredibly exciting and a huge turn-on for her.

Jolie described shooting the film as a “really lonely” experience that made her doubt herself.
She explained, “It was isolating, and I went a bit nuts. From the start, I felt incapable of leading the film, of handling the responsibility, physically managing the role, or portraying a cop who saves lives.” The emotional strain of the role left her questioning her abilities throughout the process.
Jolie mentioned that the film “almost drove me insane because Amelia’s character was so intense internally.” While The Bone Collector was commercially successful, it didn’t fare well with critics, despite praise for both Jolie and Washington’s performances.
The film holds a 29 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with an average score of 4.2/10.
